National Grid: Going Underground
A public consultation to improve the landscape of Devizes.
A public consultation to improve the landscape of Devizes.
Brief
National Grid’s Vision Impact Provision project aims to replace kilometres of overhead electricity lines and pylons with underground cables in the North Wessex Downs AONB.
Vismedia was tasked to create a digital experience to show local people the plans and get a feel for the proposed pylon-free skyline.
Solution
We started with 360° photography – both on the ground and aerial – and hosted the panoramas inside a digital destination. Images were retouched to show viewers the before/after views of the completed project site.
Once we created the digital destination, the client loaded their own video content, custom pop-ups and text into the experience.
The easy-to-navigate user interface enabled users to see the project site clearly from every viewpoint and bring up key information quickly. The 360° experience works on any modern browser, meaning no need to download specialist viewing software.
RESULT
The 360° experience is helping National Grid submit their planning application. With key info at the fingertips of Councils and the public, National Grid is holding virtual public consultation events in 2021. They hope to begin construction in early 2022.
Vismedia safely filmed, held on-site production days, and completed the project over lockdown by operating in a COVID-secure way (as advised by the APA and British Film Commission).
We’ll be in touch to arrange a virtual natter at a time that suits you.
